The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited has again reduced the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit, popularly known as petrol, at its retail outlets across the country.
Checks by journalists in parts of Abuja on Monday morning, January 5, showed that NNPCL filling stations have adjusted the price of petrol to ₦815 per litre from the previous ₦835 per litre.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the latest adjustment represents a ₦20 reduction in the pump price at NNPCL outlets.
Findings revealed that the new price had already taken effect at several NNPCL retail stations across the Federal Capital Territory. These include outlets in Wuse Zone 6, Wuse Zone 4, along the Keffi Abuja Road, and on the Kubwa Expressway.
An attendant at one of the stations, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed the development.
“The new price was implemented on Sunday evening,” the attendant said.
Despite the reduction, the ₦815 per litre price remains higher than the rate offered by Dangote Refinery backed MRS filling stations nationwide.
MRS outlets are currently selling petrol at ₦739 per litre following recent price cuts linked to Dangote Refinery’s reduced gantry price.
It would be recalled that NNPCL had earlier reduced the pump price of petrol by ₦80 on December 19, 2025, bringing the price down to ₦835 per litre at the time.
The ongoing price adjustments reflect an intensifying competition in Nigeria’s downstream oil sector, following Dangote Refinery’s decision to cut its gantry price to ₦699 per litre.
Industry watchers say continued adjustments by major players are likely to shape retail petrol prices nationwide in the coming weeks, as consumers closely monitor developments at filling stations.
