EKO HOT BLOG reports that the Assembly said it would not receive or consider the budget proposal until the ongoing allegations of gross misconduct levelled against the governor are concluded.
Lawmakers recalled that the House had earlier initiated impeachment proceedings against Governor Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu, over alleged misconduct, a development that has deepened the political crisis in the state.
According to the Assembly, proceeding with the presentation of the 2026 budget while impeachment processes are ongoing would be inappropriate, insisting that constitutional and legislative procedures must first be exhausted.
The decision effectively stalls the state’s budget process for 2026, raising concerns over governance, fiscal planning and the continuity of government programmes in Rivers State.
The Assembly did not indicate when it expects the impeachment process to be concluded or when the budget presentation would be rescheduled.
