EKO HOT BLOG reports that the clarification followed reports circulating earlier in the week suggesting that Baba Ahmed had formally declared his intention to run for president ahead of the next general election.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television on Friday, Baba Ahmed said he never made any declaration to contest for the presidency. He explained that his comments were limited to reaffirming his continued membership of the Labour Party.
“I never declared to contest for presidency; I simply reiterated my membership in the Labour Party, even though there could be a possibility for that happening,” he said.
Baba Ahmed added that any decision regarding a presidential bid would depend on official processes and party decisions.
“I clearly stated that one will have to wait for the Independent National Electoral Commission timetable and the party to make the call,” he stated.
Meanwhile, the former vice presidential candidate also addressed speculations surrounding his relationship with the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential flagbearer, Peter Obi, following Obi’s recent defection to the African Democratic Congress.
In an interview with Trust TV, Baba Ahmed dismissed claims of a fallout between the two political allies. He clarified that although Obi did not invite him to join the ADC, their personal and political relationship remains intact.

“Peter Obi did not invite me to join him in the ADC,” Baba Ahmed said when asked about their political alignment.
He further stressed that there was no strain in their relationship, citing a recent personal engagement as evidence of their continued cordial ties.
“People know me; there are certain things you would rather not approach me with. Our personal relationship remains solid. On the 12th, he attended a wedding at my house, in person,” he added.
