The Super Eagles of Nigeria delivered a dominant performance on Saturday, January 10, defeating Algeria 2–0 to secure a place in the semi finals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Second half goals from Victor Osimhen and Akor Adams proved decisive in a quarter final contest that Nigeria largely controlled from start to finish, ending Algeria’s campaign in emphatic fashion.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that after a cautious opening half, the breakthrough came barely two minutes after the restart. Bruno Onyemaechi sent in a dangerous cross from the left, and Osimhen reacted quickest, rising above his marker to head home from close range and give Nigeria a deserved lead.
Algeria attempted to find a response but struggled to break through a disciplined and compact Nigerian defence. The Super Eagles maintained control of possession and tempo, pressing intelligently and limiting their opponents to speculative attacks.
Nigeria doubled their advantage in the 57th minute following a swift attacking move. Osimhen turned provider, threading a precise pass into the path of Akor Adams, who calmly deceived the goalkeeper before lofting the ball into the net to make it 2–0.
From that point, Nigeria were firmly in command. Adams nearly added a second goal when his header struck the post, while Alex Iwobi and Bright Osayi Samuel both tested Algeria’s back line with probing runs and efforts.
Algeria, coached by Vladimir Petkovic, failed to cope with Nigeria’s pace and movement. Substitutions, including the withdrawal of Riyad Mahrez, did little to alter the flow of the game, as the North Africans ended the match without a single shot on target.
Nigeria did suffer a late concern when captain Wilfred Ndidi was forced off with an injury, but the Super Eagles saw out the closing stages with composure. Goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali was largely untroubled throughout the encounter.
Osimhen was named man of the match and has now scored four goals in the tournament.

The victory sends Nigeria into the semi finals, where they will face tournament hosts Morocco on Wednesday, January 14.
