The Nigerian Meteorological Agency has forecast dust haze and varying cloud conditions across the country from Sunday to Tuesday, urging residents to take health and safety precautions.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the agency made the prediction in its weather outlook released on Sunday, January 11, in Abuja. According to NiMet, moderate dust haze is expected to prevail across the northern region throughout the forecast period on Monday, with the condition likely to reduce visibility in some locations.
NiMet also predicted thick dust haze over the central region of the country during the period, while inland cities in the southern region are expected to experience moderate dust haze.
For the coastal areas, the agency forecast sunny skies with patches of clouds, with prospects of isolated thunderstorms accompanied by light rainfall later in the day. States likely to experience the showers include Lagos, Bayelsa and Rivers.
On Tuesday, the agency said moderate dust haze would persist over the northern region throughout the forecast period.
“For the central region, moderate dust haze is anticipated over the region throughout the forecast period,” NiMet stated.
“Moderate dust haze is anticipated over the inland cities of the southern region.”
NiMet added that sunny skies with patches of clouds would dominate the coastal areas, with chances of isolated thunderstorms and light rains over parts of Lagos, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Delta, Bayelsa and Rivers states later in the day.
Looking ahead to Wednesday, the agency predicted thick dust haze over the northern region throughout the forecast period. It also forecast moderate dust haze over the central region, while inland cities in the southern region are expected to experience dust haze. Sunny skies with patches of clouds are anticipated over coastal cities nationwide.
NiMet warned that dust particles are currently in suspension and advised the public to take necessary precautions.
“People with asthmatic health conditions and other respiratory issues should be cautious of the present weather condition,” the agency said.
It also cautioned motorists, stating, “Driving in the rain should be done with caution.”

The agency further urged airline operators to obtain airport specific weather reports from NiMet to ensure effective planning of flight operations.
“Airline operators are advised to get airport specific weather reports, flight documentation, from NiMet for effective planning in their operations,” it added.
Residents were also advised to stay informed through regular weather updates issued by the agency.
