One police officer has been confirmed dead following an armed attack on Aqua Triton Company at Ogunmakin, near Ibadan, Oyo State, after gunmen stormed the facility and abducted a Chinese expatriate.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the attackers, whose identities have yet to be established, reportedly invaded the company’s premises in a coordinated operation and engaged security personnel in a gun battle. During the exchange, a police officer attached to the facility was fatally shot while attempting to repel the assailants.
Sources said some of the gunmen were also believed to have sustained gunshot injuries during the confrontation. Despite resistance from security operatives, the attackers succeeded in abducting a Chinese national described as the company’s principal officer before escaping from the scene.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Oyo State Command, Adewale Osifeso, said the Commissioner of Police, Femi Haruna, was immediately briefed on the attack.
Osifeso disclosed that the commissioner promptly ordered the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations to deploy the Anti Kidnapping Squad, alongside other tactical teams, to the area to pursue the assailants.
He said a coordinated bush combing operation is currently underway, while a full scale investigation has been launched to ensure the safe rescue of the abducted expatriate and the arrest of those responsible for the attack.
The police spokesperson assured residents and workers in the area that the command remains fully committed to restoring calm and strengthening security around critical facilities.

He also appealed to members of the public to cooperate with security agencies by providing credible information that could assist ongoing operations aimed at rescuing the victim and dismantling the criminal network behind the attack.
