The Kano State Police Command has arrested three suspects believed to be the masterminds behind the gruesome killing of a housewife and her six children in Dorayi Chiranci Quarters, Kano, on January 17, 2026.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said the arrests followed directives from the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, to ensure the perpetrators of the brutal crime were brought to justice.

According to him, acting on the instructions of the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, a team of crack detectives carried out a successful sting operation that led to the arrest of the suspects.
Those arrested were identified as Umar Auwalu, 23, of Sabuwar Gandu Quarters; Isyaku Yakubu, also known as “Chebe”, 40, of Sagagi Quarters; and Yakubu Abdulaziz, popularly called “Wawo”, 21, of Sabon Gida Sharada Quarters, all in Kano metropolis.

CSP Kiyawa disclosed that the suspects were apprehended during a coordinated operation conducted between 10:00 pm on January 17 and 4:00 am on January 18, 2026.
He revealed that Umar Auwalu, alleged to be the leader of the syndicate and a nephew of the deceased housewife, confessed to committing the crime. The suspect also reportedly admitted that the same gang had been responsible for several other violent attacks in recent times, including the killing and burning of two housewives in Tudun Yola Quarters, Kano.
Items recovered from the suspects included four blood-stained clothes, two mobile phones belonging to the deceased, a cutlass, a club (locally known as “gora”), some cash allegedly taken from victims, and other dangerous weapons.
The police spokesperson commended the officers involved in the operation, as well as members of the public, for their support, prayers and cooperation. He assured residents that the command remains fully committed to ensuring that all those responsible for the heinous crime are prosecuted and brought to justice.
