Eko Hot Blog reports that the sensitization exercise, held in Ikosi-Ejinrin LCDA, was led by the Executive Secretary of LASWARCO, Mrs. Khadijah Oluwabukola Adeyemo, and brought together borehole drillers, community leaders, ward chairmen, market leaders, youth groups, and other relevant stakeholders across the council area.
Addressing participants, Mrs. Adeyemo stressed the importance of viewing water beyond a commercial commodity, describing it as a public good and a vital driver of public health and sustainable development.
“Water should not be seen merely as a commodity but as a public good that directly affects our health, productivity, and overall development,” she said.
“Poor water hygiene and unsafe water sources are major causes of cholera, diarrhoea, dysentery, typhoid fever, and other water-borne diseases, especially in densely populated communities.”
She emphasized that proper water hygiene practices, including safe borehole construction, regular water testing, adequate sanitation, and responsible water handling, are essential to preventing disease outbreaks and protecting vulnerable groups.
“Adhering to water safety standards will help reduce healthcare costs and protect children, the elderly, and other vulnerable members of our society,” Mrs. Adeyemo noted.
She further explained that LASWARCO’s mandate is to ensure that water service delivery across Lagos State remains safe, reliable, affordable, and sustainable, in line with the THEMES+ Agenda of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu’s administration.
Representing the Executive Chairman of Ikosi-Ejinrin LCDA, Akogun Wale Raji Anomo, the Vice Chairman, Alhaji Wasiu Oluwole Dehinsilu, commended LASWARCO for the timely and impactful initiative.
“Access to clean and safe water has unquantifiable health and social benefits for our people,” he said.
“Promoting proper water hygiene practices is critical to preventing avoidable disease outbreaks, and the council is committed to working closely with LASWARCO to ensure compliance with water safety standards.”
He reaffirmed the council’s dedication to supporting initiatives that guarantee the provision of clean and potable water across Ikosi-Ejinrin LCDA.
The sensitization programme, themed “Safe Water, Sanitation and Hygiene,” reinforced the shared commitment of LASWARCO and Ikosi-Ejinrin LCDA to safeguarding public health, strengthening water regulation, and improving the quality of life of residents through safe and sustainable water practices.
