EKO HOT BLOG reports that Troost Ekong joined Al Ahli from Saudi Arabian club Al Kholood, where he was a regular figure in the heart of defence and one of the team’s most dependable performers.
The 32 year old defender signed a contract that will keep him at the Qatari outfit until June 2028, reflecting the club’s confidence in his experience, leadership and long term value.
On arrival, Troost Ekong was handed the number five jersey, a shirt number he has worn throughout most of his professional career at both club and international level.
His signing is regarded as a significant boost for Al Ahli as the club targets improved defensive solidity and a strong finish in the ongoing Qatar Stars League campaign.
During his spell with Al Kholood, Troost Ekong made 49 appearances across competitions, scoring two goals and playing a key role in organising the team’s backline.
His performances in Saudi Arabia further highlighted his reputation as a calm, commanding and reliable defender, built over years of experience in Europe, the Middle East and international football.
The move comes shortly after Troost Ekong announced his retirement from international football, bringing an end to a distinguished career with the Super Eagles.
He served as Nigeria’s captain at different periods and was a prominent figure in several Africa Cup of Nations campaigns, earning widespread respect for his leadership, professionalism and consistency, except at the just concluded tournament in Morocco.

With his international career now concluded, Troost Ekong is set to focus fully on club football as he begins a new chapter with Al Ahli in Qatar.
