Hundeyin said the request prompted a covert, intelligence-driven investigation by INTERPOL operatives, which led to the arrest of the suspect, Achufusi Obioma Ikenna, and the recovery of the stolen money.
According to him, after all legal and administrative requirements were concluded, the recovered funds were officially handed over to the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service through the British High Commission in Abuja. The handover was facilitated by a representative of the High Commission, Mr Shaun McLeary, for onward transfer to the victim.
The police spokesperson added that the suspect would be charged to court once ongoing investigations are concluded.

Hundeyin described the recovery and repatriation of the funds as a clear demonstration of the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to intelligence-led policing, effective international collaboration, and the fight against cross-border cybercrime.
He reaffirmed that the Force remains determined to trace and recover proceeds of crime, return them to victims, and ensure that offenders are brought to justice in line with the law and international best practices.
