Eko Hot Blog reports that the visit was organised to provide students with practical exposure to the workings of the legislative arm of government and to deepen their understanding of governance, lawmaking and democratic institutions beyond the classroom environment.
During the engagement, the students were taken through the core functions of the House, including plenary proceedings, committee activities and the responsibilities of lawmakers in policy formulation and representation.
Officials of the Assembly explained legislative procedures and the institutional framework that guides lawmaking in Lagos State.
A lecturer who accompanied the students described the trip as impactful.
“This visit has given our students a clearer perspective of how laws are made and how democratic institutions function in practice,” the lecturer said.
Some of the students also expressed excitement over the opportunity to witness the legislative environment firsthand.
“It is one thing to read about the legislature in textbooks and another to see it in action. This experience has broadened my understanding of governance,” one of the students noted.
The field trip further served as a platform for bridging theoretical knowledge with real-life political practice, enriching the students’ academic experience and strengthening their appreciation of Nigeria’s democratic system.
The exercise reflects Augustine University’s commitment to experiential learning and the training of well-rounded graduates equipped for leadership, civic responsibility and public service.
