He stressed that protecting schoolchildren is a collective responsibility, noting that the NSCDC was designated to spearhead school security efforts following the abduction of the Chibok girls in 2014.
Alausa acknowledged existing coordination and structural gaps in the Safe School framework and revealed that the Federal Ministry of Education is establishing a full-fledged Department of Safe School Initiative to strengthen oversight and improve nationwide coordination.
He emphasised the need for sustainable funding, stating that discussions are ongoing to create innovative financing mechanisms that will guarantee steady and dedicated funding for the initiative.
The minister reaffirmed President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to safeguarding children and said the ministry would now lead coordination efforts in partnership with security agencies and relevant ministries to ensure safer learning environments across the country.

Responding, Audi disclosed that nationwide vulnerability assessments conducted by the Corps showed that more than 60,000 schools lack adequate security measures. He warned that the affected schools are exposed to significant risks and require urgent intervention to protect students and staff.
The NSCDC boss assured the minister of strengthened collaboration to secure schools nationwide.
Meanwhile, in Ogun State, the government has unveiled a Closed Circuit Television Control Centre for the state’s Security Network Agency, Amotekun Corps, as part of efforts to enhance security operations through technology.
Secretary to the State Government, Tokunbo Talabi, said the deployment of advanced surveillance systems would boost the operational efficiency of the Corps and improve monitoring of security situations across the state.
Ogun State Commander of Amotekun Corps, Brig Gen Alade Adedigba (rtd), described the unveiling as a major milestone in integrating technology into security architecture.
