The long-standing rivalry between former Senator Shehu Sani and former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has escalated this afternoon, February 15, 2026.
EkoHotBlog reports that Sani has formally challenged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to launch a comprehensive investigation into the eight-year administration of his predecessor.
Eight Years of Governance Under Scrutiny
Speaking to journalists, Sani argued that the current “surveillance drama” involving the NSA should not distract from the need to audit Kaduna State’s finances.
This follows previous reports of a N423 billion “looting” allegation raised by the Kaduna State House of Assembly, which El-Rufai has consistently denied.

Surveillance Scandal Adds To Pressure
The timing of Sani’s demand is critical, as El-Rufai is already under fire for allegedly wiretapping the National Security Adviser’s phone and querying the ONSA over the procurement of “toxic” Thallium Sulphate.
Civil Society Organisations have suggested that these recent admissions warrant immediate legal and investigative action to protect national security.
