Tragedy struck the Agamo community in Akure North Local Council Area, Ondo State, when gunmen reportedly suspected to be bandits stormed the palace and killed the traditional ruler, Oba Kehinde Falodun, on Wednesday night.
Sources indicate that the monarch was killed after resisting an attempted kidnapping by about ten armed assailants who attacked the palace. A family insider said that initial gunfire failed to penetrate Oba Falodun, prompting the attackers to strike him on the head with a weapon.

“The attackers arrived through the Itaogbolu axis, speaking Hausa, and we believe they are part of an organised criminal gang,” a close source said.
The incident plunged the community into panic and heightened tension. The Olori (wife) of the deceased recounted the terrifying ordeal, explaining that the attackers struck shortly after the monarch returned from a brief trip to Akure.
“He came back and sat outside to rest. The bandits came and started shooting. Three were at the entrance, and seven came inside. I ran into a nearby bush after being chased and shot at. They dragged my husband away despite my cries. Later, they hit him on his head and stomach. He was killed,” she said.
One of the monarch’s daughters corroborated the account, describing the attackers as dressed like Fulani herders and speaking Hausa:

“They invaded the palace, shot at him, but the bullets didn’t penetrate. They carried him multiple times, and he insisted he was a king. Eventually, they brought out a knife-like weapon and attacked him. He was later killed outside the palace, bleeding from his head, while I and a female guest were present. The attackers also beat the guest and seized her phone.”
The Ondo State Police Command confirmed the tragedy, stating that the monarch’s body was found a few metres from the palace with gunshot wounds. They immediately launched a manhunt, deploying divisional officers, tactical teams, local hunters, Atuluse Security, and Amotekun operatives to track the assailants.
“Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects. Monitoring and surveillance have been intensified to protect residents and prevent further breakdown of law and order. The public is urged to report any credible information to the nearest police station,” the statement said.
The brutal attack has left the Agamo community mourning, highlighting the persistent security challenges in parts of Ondo State.
