The Vice-Chancellor of Lagos State University, Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, has expressed strong optimism about the institution’s future following the appointment of His Royal Majesty, Oba Olukayode Olufolarin Ogunsanwo (Telade IV), as the 6th Chancellor of the university.

Eko Hot Blog reports that speaking during a courtesy and congratulatory visit by the university management to the Alara’s Palace in Ilara, the Vice-Chancellor described the appointment as historic, noting that Kabiyesi is the first traditional ruler to assume the role of Chancellor in LASU’s history.

Professor Olatunji-Bello explained that the purpose of the visit was not only to formally congratulate the monarch on his well-deserved appointment but also to familiarize the management with him and strengthen institutional ties.
She commended the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, for what she described as a thoughtful and visionary decision.
According to her, the university community is confident that the Alara’s goodwill, experience, and leadership capacity will significantly enhance LASU’s development.
She emphasized that as an alumnus of the institution, Kabiyesi understands the university’s needs and shares a deep interest in its growth and transformation.
“We are hopeful that Kabiyesi will bring his wealth of experience and goodwill to further reposition LASU. We look forward to a cordial relationship where he will serve as a strong bridge between the university and the government,” the Vice-Chancellor stated.
She further expressed hope that under the Alara’s chancellorship, the university would witness greater progress in infrastructure, academic innovation, and overall institutional advancement, positioning LASU as a stronger and more competitive institution both nationally and internationally.
The visit concluded on a positive note, with both the university management and the royal institution reaffirming their shared commitment to excellence, collaboration, and sustainable development for Lagos State University.
