Adeyemi Ikuforiji, former Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly and GAC member; Oba Olukayode Ogunsanwo, the Alara of Ilara Kingdom; as well as chairmen of local governments across Epe Division, party leaders, traditional rulers, and a large gathering of Muslim faithful.
In his remarks, Hon. Ogunkelu emphasized the spiritual significance of Ramadan, noting that the gathering was not only an opportunity to seek divine guidance for the nation but also a moment to acknowledge the progress and reforms achieved under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration. He said, “Ramadan teaches us discipline, humility, and service to humanity. It is our duty to translate these values into our leadership and governance.”
Speaking as Chairman of the Day, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa highlighted the connection between faith and governance, pointing out that ethical politics has deep roots in Islamic teachings. “When you talk about governance, it trickles back to politics, which has existed for centuries. From the Holy Quran and the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), we learn that leadership is a trust that must be exercised with accountability and fairness,” he said. He further urged leaders, party faithful, and community members to rally behind the President to ensure continued progress and national stability.
The lecture, titled “Politics in Islam: The Way Forward,” delivered by a distinguished Islamic scholar, emphasized that political leadership must be guided by moral values, transparency, and accountability. The cleric reminded participants that responsible speech, disciplined behavior, and fulfillment of promises are essential virtues for leaders and citizens alike. “Leadership is a sacred trust. Every word, action, and decision should reflect integrity, fairness, and concern for the welfare of the people,” he noted.
In addition, prayers were offered for Hon. Ogunkelu, with the scholar acknowledging his humanitarian efforts, dedication to the community, and commitment to good governance. Guests were encouraged to support and sustain initiatives that promote development, unity, and social welfare across Epe Division.
The gathering concluded with heartfelt prayers for peace, unity, and sustained progress in Nigeria, alongside a renewed call for collective support of the current administration’s reform agenda, highlighting the critical role of ethical leadership and active civic engagement in nation-building.
