The Federal Government has secured a partnership with Coventry University to establish a campus in Nigeria, in a move aimed at expanding access to globally recognised degrees.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the initiative, driven by the Federal Ministry of Education, is part of a Transnational Education (TNE) programme designed to allow Nigerian students earn UK-standard qualifications without leaving the country.

Minister of Education, Maruf Olatunji Alausa, is currently in the United Kingdom alongside President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, where he is engaging with university leaders, investors, and development partners to advance the project.
According to the government, the proposed campus will be located in Alaro City, Lagos State, and will offer undergraduate and postgraduate programmes across key areas including Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Medicine (STEMM), Business, and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).

All degrees obtained at the campus will be equivalent to those awarded in the UK, ensuring international recognition for graduates.
Admissions are expected to begin between the third and fourth quarters of 2026, subject to regulatory approvals.
The government says the initiative will significantly reduce the cost of obtaining foreign education while allowing students to remain in Nigeria, close to their families.
Speaking on the development, Alausa said the goal is to make world-class education more accessible to Nigerian students without the financial burden of studying abroad.

The partnership is also expected to boost skills development, improve employability, and position Nigeria as a hub for global education and innovation.
The Ministry, with support from the UK’s Department for Business and Trade, said it remains committed to strengthening international collaborations that will enhance the quality and competitiveness of Nigeria’s education system.
