According to security sources, the explosive device was believed to have been planted by the bandits themselves, possibly targeting advancing security forces. However, it detonated when members of the group unknowingly rode over it while moving through the corridor on motorcycles.
“The explosion occurred as the bandits were transiting the route, leading to the instant death of about eight of them and injuries to several others,” the source disclosed.
The affected group is believed to be linked to notorious bandit leader Dogo Gide, and was reportedly heading towards the Lukope area at the time of the incident.
Following the explosion, troops of Operation Fansan Yamma, Sector 1, were said to have moved swiftly to the scene, intensifying patrols to prevent any further security threats.

However, the development has sparked fresh concerns among residents of nearby communities, including Kushaka, Kurebe, and Gbato, who fear possible reprisal attacks by other armed groups.
Stakeholders in the area have called on authorities to strengthen security presence and take proactive steps to reassure residents amid growing tension.
