Bola Ahmed Tinubu has praised the vital role Nigerian doctors and nurses play in the United Kingdom’s healthcare system, describing them as one of the largest groups of international professionals supporting the National Health Service (NHS).
Eko Hot Blog reports that Tinubu made the remarks during a state banquet hosted by King Charles III at Windsor Castle on March 18, where he highlighted the growing influence of the Nigerian diaspora in the UK.

He said Nigerian-trained medical professionals continue to deliver essential healthcare services, strengthening ties between both countries.
Beyond healthcare, the president reaffirmed the long-standing relationship between Nigeria and the UK, describing it as one built on shared history, values, and a common vision for progress.
He expressed appreciation for the warm reception given to him, his wife Oluremi Tinubu, and the Nigerian delegation, noting the historic nature of his address at the castle.
Tinubu also reflected on the deep institutional links between both nations, pointing out that Nigeria’s legal system, parliamentary structure, and civil service have roots in British traditions.
He referenced the global influence of British democratic ideals and literature, which continue to shape governance and culture worldwide.
He further highlighted strong cultural and sporting connections, noting how individuals of Nigerian heritage have excelled in various fields in the UK, strengthening people-to-people ties.

On regional security, Tinubu acknowledged the challenges posed by terrorism in West Africa and stressed the importance of continued collaboration with the UK. He expressed optimism ahead of his meeting with Keir Starmer, describing it as key to deepening cooperation.
The president also recalled the support Nigeria received from the UK during the military era, when pro-democracy activists, including himself, found refuge in the country. He said the gesture remains a lasting symbol of solidarity between both nations.
Tinubu concluded by expressing confidence in the future of Nigeria-UK relations, urging both countries to continue building a stronger partnership based on mutual respect and shared goals.
