Eko Hot Blog reports that the empowerment programme, held on Monday, March 16, 2026, benefited women farmers from Epe Central, Agbowa, Ikosi, Ejinrin, Ehin-Osa, Ladaba, as well as youths participating in Agric YES in Eredo LCDA.
Items distributed to the beneficiaries included organic compost manure, liquid manure, Nacsers spray, hand sprayers, 14 solar panels, pumping machines, smoking canes, ewedu seeds, and ugu vegetable seeds, among others.
The initiative, implemented in partnership with the African Women Development Fund, followed a two-day intensive training programme held at Iju-Ishaga, Lagos, where participants were equipped with modern farming techniques to enhance their productivity.
Speaking on the initiative, the President of Farmers in Epe Local Government and ICEHD Coordinator in Epe, Aminat Shabi, commended the organization for its consistent support and impact on women farmers in the division.
“This organization has been very supportive to all of us women farmers in Epe Division. Since 2022, ICEHD has continued to empower us with essential farming inputs and training that have greatly improved our productivity,” she said.
She noted that the recent training and empowerment programme would significantly enhance farming activities, particularly in addressing irrigation challenges caused by the current lack of electricity supply in the area.
“As you all know, there is no stable electricity supply in Epe at the moment. The solar-powered pumping machines will help us irrigate our farms effectively. Also, the smoking canes provided will support fish processing, especially for those of us involved in fishing,” she added.
Alhaja Shabi expressed gratitude to the supporting organizations and key stakeholders for their contributions to agricultural development in the area.
“On behalf of all women farmers in Epe Division, we sincerely appreciate ICEHD and the African Women Development Fund for this support. We also thank the Executive Chairman of Epe Local Government, Surah Olayemi Animashaun, the Vice Chairman, Hon. Sikiru Owolomoshe, and other stakeholders for their continuous support,” she said.
The initiative is expected to strengthen food production, empower rural women, and promote sustainable agricultural practices across Epe Division.
