EKO HOT BLOG reports that the defeat marked Ghana’s fourth consecutive loss, compounding pressure on Addo, whose side had suffered a humiliating 5-1 defeat to Austria just days earlier. The team conceded a last-minute goal to Germany’s Deniz Undav, intensifying concerns about the squad’s readiness ahead of the FIFA World Cup in North America, now just 70 days away.
In a statement, the GFA expressed appreciation to Addo, 50, for his service to the national team. “The association wishes to thank Otto Addo sincerely for his contribution to the team and wishes him the best of luck in his future endeavours,” the body said.
The association added that a new technical direction for the Black Stars would be announced in due course. Addo, appointed in March 2024, struggled to stabilise the team despite high expectations from fans and stakeholders, and his departure reflects mounting pressure on national coaches to deliver consistent results ahead of major tournaments.
Ghana now faces a challenging task at the upcoming World Cup, having been drawn in a tough group alongside England, Croatia, and Panama. The GFA’s decision comes as the team seeks to recalibrate ahead of the tournament and restore confidence among supporters.
