The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed the arrest and detention of one of its officers accused of extorting a motorist in the Idimu area of Lagos State.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the action follows a viral video in which a driver alleged that he was stopped despite having complete vehicle documentation and pressured to pay money over a dispute about the colour of his car.

According to the motorist, the officer insisted the vehicle was “grey” rather than “ash” as stated in the registration papers and allegedly threatened him with arrest.
The situation reportedly escalated into a demand for ₦30,000, which was later reduced to ₦10,000.
Reacting to the incident, the police, in a statement shared on X, confirmed that the officer has been identified and taken into custody.
“UPDATE: The officer seen in the viral video… has been identified, arrested, detained and queried. The Lagos Command will provide the full outcome of the investigation,” the statement read.

The Force added that the officer is currently undergoing disciplinary procedures, assuring the public that the findings of the investigation will be made known once internal reviews are concluded.
The incident has once again drawn attention to concerns about misconduct and extortion by security personnel, with authorities reiterating their commitment to accountability within the ranks.
