Senate has directed the Chief of Defence Staff, Olufemi Oluyede, along with other service chiefs, to conduct a thorough operational and logistics review following recent attacks on military bases in Benisheikh and Monguno.

The resolutions followed a motion presented by Tahir Monguno, who raised concerns over renewed attacks by Boko Haram on military formations in the North-East.
While presenting the motion, the lawmaker lamented the loss of several officers and soldiers in the recent assaults, including senior military personnel.
He warned that the repeated targeting of Monguno, a key garrison town, and Benisheikh, a strategic point along the Damaturu–Maiduguri road, suggests a coordinated attempt by insurgents to undermine military operations and disrupt critical supply and humanitarian routes.
Lawmakers acknowledged the sacrifices of the armed forces in ongoing counter-insurgency efforts but expressed concern over the resurgence of attacks on both military facilities and civilian communities.
They noted that the growing insecurity poses a threat to national stability, food systems, and efforts to resettle displaced persons in the region.
The Senate emphasised the importance of safeguarding civilians, describing it as a core responsibility under both national and international humanitarian laws, and essential for maintaining public confidence.
As part of its resolutions, the chamber condemned the continued violence by insurgents and observed a minute of silence in honour of fallen troops and affected civilians.
It also called on the military to strengthen compliance with operational rules and humanitarian standards, including improved training on civilian protection.
Meanwhile, some lawmakers, including Abdul Ningi, advocated the suspension of political activities in states such as Benue, Niger, and Sokoto, as well as parts of the North-East, until the security situation improves.
