According to officials, the entire exercise was fully funded by Mr. Tunde Thani, covering surgery costs, transportation, feeding, accommodation, and medication, ensuring that the patients did not face any financial burden throughout the process.
Medical personnel at Steksons Eye Centre confirmed that all 20 surgeries were successful, describing the outcome as a major milestone in restoring independence and dignity to the elderly patients.
A centre representative explained that the patients were carefully managed before, during, and after the procedure to prevent complications.
“Most of these patients came in with very poor vision, some almost completely blind. After the surgeries, the transformation has been remarkable.
They can now see clearly and carry out basic activities independently again,” the medical official said.
One of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Florence Adewale, could not hide her emotions as she expressed gratitude for the life-changing intervention.
“I had almost given up on ever seeing again. Today, I can see clearly. I am forever grateful to Mr. Tunde Thani and everyone who made this possible,” she said.
Another beneficiary, Mrs. Nike Ishola, recounted how her condition had affected her daily life and independence.
“I depended on people for everything because I could not see properly. This surgery has given me my life back,” she said with joy.
Pa Aderinola, one of the oldest beneficiaries, revealed that his visual impairment had lasted for over four decades.
“I have suffered from poor eyesight for more than 40 years. I never believed I would witness a day like this again.
I am grateful to Mr. Tunde Thani and the medical team,” he said emotionally, adding that he would continue to pray for the sponsor and staff.
Speaking on the outcome of the outreach, Dr. Oyenusi, an optometrist at Steksons Eye Centre, praised the initiative, noting that it provided relief to patients who had long endured avoidable blindness.
“Many of these cases were severe, but treatable. This kind of intervention makes a huge difference in restoring dignity and independence to elderly patients,” he said.
He also commended the structured support system provided throughout the process, which ensured smooth surgery and recovery.
Staff of Thani Oladunjoye Old People Care Centre described Mr. Tunde Thani as a philanthropist whose passion for the elderly goes beyond routine charity.
“He is not a politician. He is a man deeply committed to his community. He regularly supports the elderly with healthcare, food, and welfare services without discrimination or publicity-seeking,” a staff member said.
They further noted that his intervention in this eye surgery outreach is one of many similar humanitarian projects he has consistently funded over the years, aimed at improving the quality of life for vulnerable individuals regardless of their background or origin.
The success of the latest medical outreach has once again drawn attention to the importance of private humanitarian initiatives in addressing healthcare challenges, especially among the elderly population.
