Eyewitnesses said a group of youths escorting a bride rode motorcycles aggressively through a busy section of Potiskum, allegedly performing risky stunts and speeding without regard for pedestrians and other road users.
According to residents, the situation turned tragic when one of the riders reportedly lost control and struck the deceased violently.
Confirming the incident, the victim’s brother, Muhammad Haruna, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that Abubakar was standing by the roadside when the rider hit him on the head.
“My brother was standing by the roadside when one of the riders struck him violently on the head,” he said.
He explained that the impact caused the victim to fall into a nearby drainage channel, where he later died from the injuries sustained.

“Before anyone could help him, he had already died from the injuries,” Muhammad added.
Describing the incident as heartbreaking and avoidable, he lamented the growing culture of reckless motorcycle riding during celebrations in the community.
“Every celebration now comes with dangerous displays on motorcycles. Innocent people are always at risk,” he said.
Muhammad called on the Yobe State Government and relevant authorities to strengthen traffic enforcement and introduce stricter safety measures to curb reckless riding during public ceremonies.
“If the government does not act now, more innocent lives may be lost through carelessness and indiscipline,” he warned.
He also demanded justice for his late brother, insisting that the rider responsible for the incident must be identified and prosecuted.
Residents of Potiskum also expressed sadness over the tragedy, describing it as another reminder of the dangers associated with unsafe conduct during festivities.
Community leaders urged youths to embrace discipline and responsible behaviour, stressing that celebrations should not endanger lives.
