Chelsea have reportedly reached a full agreement to appoint former Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso as the club’s new manager.
According to reports from The Athletic, Alonso accepted the opportunity to take charge at Stamford Bridge after visiting London earlier this month. The report added that both parties are finalising a four-year contract, with an official announcement expected soon.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that Former Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola was also considered for the position before Chelsea moved closer to securing Alonso’s appointment.
The 44-year-old Spanish tactician has been without a managerial role since leaving Real Madrid in January, less than a year into a three-year deal.
Before his spell in Madrid, Alonso enjoyed a historic campaign with Bayer Leverkusen, guiding the club to its first Bundesliga title during the 2023/24 season while completing the domestic campaign unbeaten.
As a player, Alonso spent five successful years in the Premier League with Liverpool and was part of the side that won the UEFA Champions League in 2005.
Naija News recalls that Chelsea parted ways with manager Liam Rosenior in April following a disappointing run of results, including five consecutive Premier League defeats.
Meanwhile, Manchester City recently defeated Chelsea 1-0 in the FA Cup final at Wembley Stadium.
The game was decided in the 72nd minute when Antoine Semenyo scored from close range after a clever assist from Erling Haaland.
The victory secured Manchester City’s eighth FA Cup title and handed manager Pep Guardiola his 20th trophy in charge of the club.

Chelsea showed moments of attacking intent during the match but struggled to create clear chances as City maintained control for most of the encounter.
