- Tinubu, Osifo To Battle For APC Presidential Ticket In Direct Primary

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced that its presidential candidate for the 2027 general election will emerge through a nationwide direct primary scheduled for Saturday, May 23, 2026.
The party disclosed that the exercise would take place across all 8,809 wards in the country, allowing registered APC members to vote directly for their preferred presidential aspirant.
The APC National Secretary, Ajibola Basiru, made this known in an official notice released on Thursday night.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that according to the notice, President Bola Tinubu will contest the party’s presidential ticket against Stanley Osifo.
Basiru explained that the party adopted the direct primary option to ensure wider participation of members in the selection process.
“All registered members of the party shall be eligible to vote for the presidential aspirant of their choice in each of the 8,809 wards across the country,” Basiru stated.
The APC said voting would be conducted in all wards nationwide, while results from each ward would be collated at the local government level before final submission to the national collation committee.
“The direct primary will be held in each of the 8,809 wards. Results for each ward, comprising the 774 Local Governments, will be collated by the Local Government Collation Officer, to be appointed by the State Coordinator and Collation Officer appointed by the National Working Committee,” the notice read.
The party further disclosed that the conduct and supervision of the exercise in the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory would be handled by State Coordinators and Collation Officers appointed by the APC leadership.
According to the notice, the collated results from the states would be submitted to the Presidential Primary Election Committee in Abuja on May 24, 2026.
“The organization and conduct of the direct primary in each of the 36 states and the FCT shall be the responsibility of the State Coordinator and Collation Officer. They shall also collate the results of all the local governments in the state and present the same to the Presidential Primary Election Committee in Abuja, FCT, on May 24, 2026,” the statement added.
The APC also stated that the primary election would be conducted in line with the operational guidelines earlier submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

According to the party, the guidelines were formally transmitted to INEC in a letter dated May 15, 2026.
