The Abia State Police Command has launched an investigation into the killing of a young man in Aba, with the victim’s body recovered and deposited in a morgue for autopsy.

Eko Hot Blog reports that the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Maureen Chinaka, disclosed this while reacting to inquiries surrounding the incident, which reportedly occurred on May 24, 2026, at about 12:35 p.m.

According to Chinaka, preliminary investigations revealed that unidentified gunmen chased the victim before shooting him dead in front of a church located at Ehere, near Opobo Junction in Aba.

She explained that officers attached to the Eastern Ngwa Police Division, who were on patrol around Obikabia Junction, received intelligence about the attack and immediately mobilised to the scene alongside a patrol team from Ohuru Division.

The police spokesperson stated that the victim was found lying lifeless in a pool of blood when operatives arrived at the location.

“It was the DPO at Obikabia Junction that received the distress call, and his team went there,” Chinaka said.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that he was pursued. The assailants who killed him pursued him as he was running towards the church, and they shot him in front of the church.”

The Command said efforts were ongoing to identify and apprehend those behind the killing, while assuring residents that investigations into the incident had commenced.
