- Obi, Kwankwaso May Leave NDC If Expectations Are Not Met – Bashir Ahmad
- He claimed their goals may not align with Dickson’s vision.
- Igbo elders backed the proposed Obi-Kwankwaso ticket for 2027.
Former presidential aide, Bashir Ahmad, has suggested that the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, and his running mate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, could leave the party if their political expectations are not met.
Ahmad made the assertion in a post on his verified 𝕏 account, where he argued that both politicians view the NDC primarily as a platform to pursue their ambitions ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to him, the political interests of Obi and Kwankwaso may not align in the long term with those of the party’s national leader, Seriake Dickson.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that he maintained that the two politicians could seek another political platform if they become dissatisfied with developments within the party.
“If Obi and Kwankwaso’s expectations are not realised within the party, they will definitely move on to another platform ahead of the 2031 for the same reason,” Ahmad wrote.
The former presidential aide further claimed that Dickson appears focused on building a lasting political structure rather than pursuing a short-term electoral arrangement.
“It is obvious that Dickson is only pursuing a long-term political project, not a short-term electoral arrangement.
“From what I understood, his focus is to build a formidable political platform this time that could position him strongly for presidency in 2031 or so,” Ahmad stated.
His comments come amid growing discussions surrounding the emerging alliance between Obi and Kwankwaso within the NDC and the party’s preparations for the 2027 elections.
Meanwhile, Kwankwaso on Wednesday hosted a delegation from the Igbo Elders Consultative Forum at his residence in Abuja.
The former Kano State governor disclosed the visit in a post on 𝕏, revealing that the group expressed support for the proposed Peter Obi and Kwankwaso ticket under the NDC ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
According to Kwankwaso, the delegation was led by Dr. S. N. Okeke, Chairman of the Ohanaeze Council of Elders for the 19 states and the Federal Capital Territory, alongside former Enugu State governor, Okwesilieze Nwodo.
He stated that the elders commended the growing political relationship between him and Obi, describing it as a development capable of strengthening national unity and broadening political participation ahead of the next general election.

The latest endorsement adds to the ongoing political conversations surrounding the proposed Obi and Kwankwaso partnership as political parties begin positioning ahead of the 2027 polls.
