Iranian state television reported on Saturday that former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei will be buried on July 9 in his hometown of Mashhad, a major religious city in northeastern Iran.
Eko Hot Blog gathered that the burial, originally scheduled for March, was postponed because of the conflict that followed the Israeli and U.S. airstrikes on February 28 that reportedly killed Khamenei after nearly 37 years in power.

According to the broadcaster, funeral ceremonies will begin in Tehran on July 4 and continue for three days before moving to the holy city of Qom on July 7.
The national funeral’s opening day coincides with the United States’ Independence Day celebrations, which mark the country’s 250th anniversary this year.

Khamenei’s son, Mojtaba Khamenei, succeeded him as Supreme Leader in early March, becoming the third person to hold the position since the Islamic Republic was established in 1979.
Mojtaba, who was reportedly injured in the same strikes that killed his father and several senior officials, has not appeared publicly since taking office and has communicated only through statements issued in his name.
