Eko Hot Blog Reports that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has expressed willingness to step down from office if it would secure Ukraine’s long-sought NATO membership, marking a dramatic shift in the country’s efforts to end the ongoing war with Russia.
“If you need me to leave this chair, I am ready to do that. And I also can exchange it for NATO membership for Ukraine,” Zelensky stated during a press conference ahead of the third anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion.

His remarks come amid increasing international pressure on Ukraine and comments by U.S. President Donald Trump, who recently referred to Zelensky as a “dictator without elections.” Zelensky dismissed the remark, stating, “I wasn’t offended, but a dictator would be.”
Under Ukrainian law, elections cannot be held during martial law, which has been in effect since Russia’s invasion in February 2022. Despite this, Zelensky reiterated that his priority remains Ukraine’s security rather than holding onto power.

NATO, Security, and U.S. Relations
As European leaders, including Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, arrive in Kyiv for high-level talks, NATO membership remains a central topic of discussion. Zelensky called the meeting a potential “turning point” in Ukraine’s path to NATO.
He also addressed concerns that Ukraine is being sidelined in negotiations, emphasizing his desire for U.S. support beyond mere mediation. “I really want it to be more than just mediation…that’s not enough,” he said.

Amid speculation about a U.S.-Ukraine rare earth mineral deal, Zelensky confirmed ongoing discussions, stating, “We are ready to share,” but emphasized that securing peace must take precedence over economic agreements.
Escalating Conflict with Russia
Zelensky’s remarks followed one of the most intense Russian assaults on Ukraine since the war began. Over the weekend, Russia launched a record 267 drones in a single attack, targeting 13 regions across Ukraine. Emergency services reported significant infrastructure damage and at least three casualties.
Ukraine’s Air Force confirmed that 138 drones were shot down, while others were neutralized by electronic warfare measures. The attack kept Kyiv under air alerts for six hours, adding to the mounting toll of the war.

In a statement, Zelensky reiterated his call for greater Western support, saying that Ukraine needs European and U.S. assistance to secure a lasting and just peace.
Ukraine’s First Lady, Olena Zelenska, also took to social media, describing the attack as a night of “death and destruction,” reinforcing the urgent need for international solidarity.
