According to the state government, the project forms part of ongoing efforts to address flooding challenges by providing a dedicated outlet for stormwater from Adfarm Estate, Adson Street and surrounding communities through a newly constructed culvert across Baale Animashaun Road.
Speaking on the development, the Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, said the temporary closure of the affected section of the road is necessary to ensure the safe and efficient execution of the project.
He explained that motorists approaching Baale Animashaun Road from the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway would need to use alternative routes throughout the construction period.
One of the designated routes will take commuters through Ijaiye Bus Stop Junction via Agbado-Ijaiye Road, popularly known as Post Office Road, before connecting to Alakuko Road and returning to Baale Animashaun Road.
Motorists can also access the corridor through Jendor Junction near Alakuko Junction and proceed via Alhaji Ganiyu Road to reconnect with Baale Animashaun Road.
Another diversion route will direct road users through Ajegunle-Ilo Bus Stop Junction, Adetiba Street, Fagbeyiro Abayomi Street and Fola Azeez Street before linking back to the affected road.

Osiyemi noted that access from the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway into Baale Animashaun Road will be completely restricted while construction is ongoing.
“The construction work is scheduled to commence on June 15, 2026, and will last for eight weeks. There will be no movement into Baale Animashaun Road from Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway as the road will be closed for the construction works,” he said.
The commissioner appealed to motorists and residents to cooperate with traffic officials and comply with all diversion signs and instructions to minimise disruptions during the project.
He added that traffic management personnel would be deployed to the area to ensure smooth vehicular movement and maintain order throughout the construction period.
The state government stated that the project is part of broader initiatives to strengthen flood control infrastructure, improve environmental sustainability and enhance road safety across Lagos.
