The Kebbi State Police Command has dismissed reports suggesting that schools across the state have been shut down due to insecurity, describing the claims as false and misleading.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the command’s spokesperson, SP Bashir Usman, made the clarification in a statement issued on Saturday in Birnin Kebbi, following rumours alleging school closures, kidnappings and the withdrawal of students by worried parents.

According to Usman, academic activities are continuing normally across the state, with no disruption to the education calendar.
He explained that students recently resumed for the new academic term, while final-year students are currently sitting for the Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) at designated centres without any security concerns.
“The reports circulating about school closures and widespread insecurity are unfounded. Schools remain open and academic activities are progressing as scheduled,” he stated.
Usman noted that the state’s education calendar remains under the supervision of the Ministry of Education and has not been affected by any security-related developments.
He further disclosed that security agencies, working alongside local vigilante groups, have continued to carry out intelligence-driven operations aimed at maintaining peace and protecting residents across the state.

According to him, recent successes recorded by security operatives, including arrests and the neutralisation of criminal elements, demonstrate the effectiveness of ongoing efforts to safeguard lives and property.
The police spokesperson urged residents to disregard unverified information capable of causing unnecessary fear and panic, stressing the importance of relying on credible sources for information.
He reassured the public of the command’s commitment to maintaining security and ensuring that schools and communities remain safe.
