Ruben Amorim has been appointed as the new head coach of AC Milan, six months after his departure from Manchester United.
The Italian giants confirmed the appointment after finishing fifth in Serie A last season and missing out on qualification for the UEFA Champions League. Amorim replaces Massimiliano Allegri and has signed a two year contract, with an option to extend his stay until 2029.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that reacting to his appointment, Amorim said:
“There are ambitions that stay with you throughout your career, and coaching AC Milan has always been one of mine. I know exactly what this Club means: history, prestige and an extraordinary fanbase around the world. It is a challenge I embrace with pride and enthusiasm, fully aware of what these colours represent. I can’t wait to get started and to experience every day the passion that drives AC Milan.”
The 41 year old began his coaching career in Portugal, managing Casa Pia, Braga and Sporting CP before taking charge of Manchester United in November 2024.
His time at Old Trafford lasted 14 months before he was dismissed in January following a disappointing campaign. During his tenure, United recorded their lowest ever Premier League finish and failed to secure qualification for European competition.
Following Amorim’s exit, former Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick was appointed interim manager before being handed the role on a permanent basis. Carrick led the club back into the UEFA Champions League places after overseeing a strong finish to the season.
Amorim’s appointment also ends Manchester United’s obligation to continue paying the remainder of his compensation package following his dismissal.

The Portuguese coach is set for an early reunion with his former club, with AC Milan scheduled to face Manchester United in a pre season friendly in Poland on August 15.
