The Minority Caucus of the House of Representatives has appointed lawmaker representing Ogbaru Federal Constituency of Anambra State, Afam Victor Ogene, as its new spokesperson.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that Ogene, who also serves as the leader of the Nigeria Democratic Party Caucus in the House, was appointed following an online meeting of the Minority Caucus held on Friday.
The announcement was contained in a statement signed by the Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Rep. Fredrick Agbedi.
According to the caucus, Ogene’s appointment reflects confidence in his ability to effectively communicate the positions of opposition lawmakers and strengthen engagement between the caucus and the Nigerian public.
The statement described him as a ranking legislator and respected parliamentarian with extensive legislative experience and a strong commitment to democratic values.
It noted that his understanding of parliamentary processes, governance, and accountability would further strengthen the caucus’s role in promoting transparency and providing checks and balances in government.
The caucus also highlighted Ogene’s professional background as an award winning journalist and editor, describing it as an added advantage in his new role.
“As spokesperson, Hon. Ogene will articulate the positions of the Minority Caucus on national issues, ensure effective communication with the Nigerian people, and uphold the caucus’s constitutional duty of holding the Executive to account,” the statement read.
The Minority Caucus expressed confidence that Ogene would discharge his responsibilities effectively and contribute to advancing the caucus’s legislative agenda.

It also called on members of the media and the general public to support him as he assumes the position.
The appointment takes immediate effect.
