EKO HOT BLOG reports that speaking on Sunday after securing a second term in office, Oyebanji said electoral success was determined by performance and direct engagement with the people, not by commentary on social media platforms.
The governor argued that public office holders who deliver on their promises would ultimately be rewarded by voters at the polls.
“There are no polling units on social media,” Oyebanji said.
Drawing an analogy between governance and farming, the governor stated that leaders who work diligently for the people should expect positive outcomes when the time comes for voters to make their decision.
“A farmer who has diligently tilled the ground does not interfere on the day of harvest. Some people who have not done anything are busy on social media,” he said.
Oyebanji maintained that politicians who fail to establish meaningful connections with the electorate often resort to media campaigns and online attacks against their opponents.
According to him, governance should be judged by tangible results rather than narratives promoted through social and traditional media platforms.
“If you have done well, people will vote for you. But if you don’t have anything to say other than going to media houses to grant interviews and tell lies against the government, stay on social media whipping up sentiments. Yesterday was their day of reckoning,” he added.
The governor’s remarks came after he recorded a landslide victory in the governorship election, winning all 16 local government areas of the state.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Oyebanji winner of the election after polling 319,224 votes.
His closest rival, Wole Oluyede of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), secured 40,543 votes, while Dare Bejide of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) finished third with 12,872 votes.
INEC also disclosed that 384,940 voters were accredited for the election, with 375,777 valid votes cast and 6,332 votes rejected.

The victory gives Oyebanji a fresh mandate to continue leading Ekiti State for another term.
