The Nigeria Immigration Service has cautioned the public against using unofficial platforms for passport applications, describing such channels as fraudulent.
In a statement shared on its official X account on Monday, Eko Hot Blog reports that the agency dismissed claims circulating online about irregularities in its passport application and payment system, stating that the reports are false and misleading.

The service clarified that its passport application process is fully digital, secure, and accessible only through its authorised portal, which serves both Nigerians at home and those abroad.

It stressed that no third party is permitted to handle passport applications or payments on its behalf.
The agency also denied reports suggesting that any religious body or private organisation is linked to its payment system, insisting that such claims do not reflect its operations.
According to the statement, “At no time has the Service authorised any religious group, private organisation, or individual to act as an intermediary in its passport process.”

The NIS further noted that it has launched an investigation into the source of the misinformation and warned that those responsible would face appropriate sanctions.
It advised applicants to rely strictly on official communication channels and avoid dealing with unauthorised agents or suspicious links when processing their passports.
