The Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has held a strategic meeting with the President of San José State University (SJSU), California, Dr. Cynthia Teniente-Matson, to strengthen collaboration in education, technology, innovation and cultural exchange.
Eko Hot Blog reports that a key outcome of the meeting was the proposed Silicon Valley Tech Bridge Initiative, a summer programme designed to provide Nigerian students and young professionals with hands-on training in emerging technologies.

Under the initiative, participants will receive specialised instruction in areas including Artificial Intelligence (AI), semiconductors and medical devices, while also gaining industry exposure through engagements with leading global technology companies such as Adobe, LinkedIn and Jabil.
The programme will also include participation in Black Engineer Week, creating opportunities for mentorship and networking with accomplished Nigerian professionals living in the diaspora.
Dabiri-Erewa described the initiative as a major step towards equipping Nigerian youths with globally competitive skills while strengthening engagement with Nigeria’s highly skilled diaspora community.
She noted that the collaboration aligns with efforts to expose young Nigerians to global innovation ecosystems and enhance their capacity to compete in the international technology space.
Earlier, Dr. Cynthia Teniente-Matson reaffirmed San José State University’s commitment to developing meaningful international partnerships that promote educational excellence, innovation and global engagement.

Both parties expressed optimism that the proposed collaboration would create new opportunities for Nigerian students, researchers, entrepreneurs and technology professionals, while further deepening educational and technological ties between Nigeria and the United States.
