Represented by Special Adviser on Taxation and Revenue Opeyemi Ogungbo, Sanwo-Olu pledged full support for Ohagwa’s administration in promoting tax administration and compliance.
The governor challenged Ohagwa to build upon existing foundations and contribute to modernizing Nigeria’s tax system, fostering growth and efficiency within the sector.

Professor M.A. Mainoma of Nasarawa State University discussed the evolving nature of Nigeria’s tax system in a lecture titled “The Tax Professionals of Tomorrow: Skills, Ethics, and Innovation.” Driven by rapid technological progress, rising regulatory complexity, and changing public expectations, the tax environment is shifting both domestically and globally.
According to Mainoma, countries are increasingly moving towards harmonizing tax rules, automating tax systems, and adopting stronger tax governance measures. Today’s taxpayers demand fair, transparent taxation practices, which necessitate government accountability and ethical prudence.
He highlighted the importance of innovation in tax administration, Mainoma identified Artificial Intelligence (AI), Blockchain, and Robotic Process Automation (RPA) as key tools for transforming the system.
To achieve this transformation, he urged stronger collaboration between the government, taxpayers, and stakeholders, along with reform of policies, mindsets, and service delivery.
Despite innovation’s potential, Mainoma acknowledged challenges hindering progress, such as economic and technological barriers, human capital and skills gaps, institutional constraints, changing regulations, and scalability and sustainability issues.
