According to the agency, persistent and heavy rainfall could lead to flash floods in low-lying and coastal communities, particularly in Lagos and neighbouring southern states.

NiMet predicted early morning thunderstorms with light rain across several southern states, including Ondo, Ogun, Edo, Lagos, Rivers, Delta, Bayelsa, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom. It added that rainfall intensity would increase later in the day, with moderate to heavy showers expected across the entire region.
The agency also warned that Ogun, Ondo, Lagos, Rivers, Bayelsa, Delta, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom face a higher risk of flooding as rainfall continues into the afternoon and evening.
For the northern region, NiMet forecast morning thunderstorms with moderate rainfall over Borno, Adamawa, and Taraba, which may later spread to Bauchi, Kano, Jigawa, Katsina, Zamfara, Kaduna, Sokoto, Yobe, Gombe, and Kebbi states.
In the North Central zone, the agency predicted mostly cloudy conditions in the morning, with isolated thunderstorms expected in parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Nasarawa, and Benue. It added that rainfall would likely become more widespread across the region later in the day.

NiMet urged residents in affected areas to stay alert and take necessary precautions, noting that strong winds may precede thunderstorms. Motorists were advised to drive carefully during periods of heavy rain and reduced visibility.
The agency also warned against walking or driving through floodwaters and advised people to avoid sheltering under tall trees during thunderstorms due to the risk of lightning strikes.
Airline operators were further advised to obtain updated airport-specific weather reports to ensure safe flight operations.
NiMet stressed that strict adherence to safety advisories would help reduce risks associated with severe weather conditions.
