- Peter Obi alleged the government is frustrating and targeting opposition figures
- He said he may not be alive to contest the 2027 presidential election
- Obi also claimed he faces intimidation and discrimination in his daily activities
The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) for the 2027 general election, Peter Obi, has alleged that the Federal Government is deliberately frustrating his activities and targeting opposition figures, warning that he may not even be alive to contest the next presidential election.
Eko Hot Blog gathered Obi made the remarks during an interview on With Chude, hosted by media personality Chude Jideonwo. Excerpts of the interview were shared on X on Wednesday.
Responding to a question about his plans for the 2027 presidential election, the former Anambra State governor said his immediate concern was not whether he would emerge as a candidate but whether he would still be alive.

“Not even a candidate. I might not even be alive. I’m telling you,” Obi said.
He alleged that virtually every aspect of his daily activities was being obstructed, insisting that the challenges were deliberate.
“Every single thing I do for a living, this government is frustrating it. Deliberately so. Everything. So, there is even a possibility, if they have the opportunity, I will not be alive,” he said.
Obi, however, clarified that he was not making a direct accusation against the government but maintained that he experiences constant obstacles in carrying out routine activities.
“It’s not an accusation. I know. I get frustration every day. Because you do things that you think would be normal, it is not normal anymore,” he stated.
According to him, the alleged intimidation extends beyond him to other opposition figures across the country.
“They are attacking everybody who is in opposition personally. I am being attacked personally. Everything. Even to provide me with necessary things that I should have been entitled to, not at all,” he said.
The former Labour Party presidential candidate recounted a recent incident at an airport where he claimed officials locked his vehicle while leaving other vehicles parked in the same area untouched.

“I had a case recently at the airport, where people who work in the airport came and locked my car. And I said, ‘It’s me.’ The person in charge said he doesn’t care,” Obi alleged.
He further claimed that many of his associates now avoid greeting or publicly identifying with him because they fear becoming targets of the authorities.
According to Obi, some supporters have also discouraged him from attending weddings and other family ceremonies to avoid drawing official attention to their events.
Speaking on the state of the nation, Obi expressed concern over what he described as growing division and hostility among Nigerians, saying one of his priorities is to restore unity and promote compassion.
“We have divided the country, breeding hatred among us. I want to bring back unity where there’s division. I want to show love, compassion, care,” he said.
The Federal Government has not responded to Obi’s allegations as of the time of filing this report.
