The Commissioner for Housing, Hon. Moruf Akinderu-Fatai, disclosed this during an inspection of the project, where he said the initiative aligns with the state government’s commitment to addressing the housing needs of Lagosians.

According to him, the workers’ village will improve access to affordable homes while supporting the government’s broader housing development agenda.
Akinderu-Fatai, accompanied by the Permanent Secretary, Engr. Abdulhafis Toriola, and other officials of the ministry, also inspected the ongoing Egan-Igando Housing Scheme, which comprises 636 residential units.
The Egan-Igando project features a football pitch, tennis court, shopping mall, solar-powered water filtration system and other facilities designed to create a self-sustaining community.
The commissioner urged contractors handling the project to speed up work to enable the state government prepare the estate for commissioning by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
“We are here to assess the progress of work and identify areas requiring urgent attention. We have a contractor who is behind schedule, but that will not stop us from completing these projects,” he said.
Akinderu-Fatai explained that routine inspections were necessary to ensure construction meets approved specifications and quality standards.
The inspection team also visited the Beacon Estate, a joint venture housing project between the Lagos State Government and a private developer in Ipaja, where 126 housing units are under construction, including 80 two-bedroom apartments and 48 completed three-bedroom apartments.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment to affordable housing, the commissioner said LagosHOMS beneficiaries would continue to pay below prevailing market rates, making home ownership more accessible to low-income earners.
He also urged private developers to invest in affordable housing projects that would complement government efforts to reduce the state’s housing deficit.
Akinderu-Fatai disclosed that all the ongoing housing projects inspected are expected to be completed before the end of the year, subject to adherence to approved specifications and project timelines.

He assured residents that the ministry would continue close supervision of all housing projects to ensure contractors deliver quality work that meets government standards.
