EKO HOT BLOG reports that the retired officers are reportedly planning to converge at the entrance of the Presidential Villa to press for better welfare packages and the settlement of outstanding pension and retirement benefits.
In response, the police hierarchy has directed the immediate reinforcement of security around the Presidential Villa to prevent the protesters from approaching or gaining access to the facility’s main gate.
According to an internal police wireless message dated July 9, 2026, the directive was issued on an urgent basis.
The message, marked “Immediate,” was transmitted from the Commander of the Mobile Police Force (MOPOL) 24 PMF Prescort to the Officer Commanding (OC) Provost 24 PMF and all Unit Commanders (UCs). Copies were also sent to the Chief Police Security Officer (CPSO) to the Commander-in-Chief at the State House and all Squadron Police Officers (SPOs).
According to the communication, the directive originated from the Chief Police Security Officer to the Commander-in-Chief at the State House, Abuja.
Security personnel were instructed to ensure the immediate deployment of adequate personnel around the Presidential Villa.
The order further directed that, under no circumstances, should the retired officers protesting be allowed to approach or gain access to the entrance of the Presidential Villa.
The police also instructed officers to maintain a firm but professional presence while managing the situation and preventing any breach of security.
The message stated: “Maintain a firm but professional security presence. Ensure strict access control and handle the situation with utmost restraint while preventing any breach of security.”
The Commander further directed all officers and units concerned to comply fully with the operational directive.
The planned protest comes amid growing dissatisfaction among retired police officers over the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS), which they have repeatedly described as “inhumane,” “fraudulent,” and “slavery.”
The retirees have continued to urge President Bola Tinubu to sign the Nigeria Police Force Pension Board Bill into law. The proposed legislation seeks to remove police personnel from the Contributory Pension Scheme and establish a dedicated pension board to manage the retirement benefits of officers.
The retired officers argue that the creation of a separate pension board would provide a more sustainable and equitable welfare system for serving and retired members of the Nigeria Police Force.
