- Peter Obi said Pastor Adeboye was correct that Tinubu has tried his best on security
- Obi argued that the key question is whether the President’s best is good enough
- He also said Nigeria needs leadership with competence, capacity, compassion, commitment and character
National Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has agreed with the recent remarks by the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, that President Bola Tinubu has done his best in addressing Nigeria’s security challenges, but argued that the country now requires a new direction.
Eko Hot Blog gathered that Obi made the comments during an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, published on YouTube on Thursday, while explaining why Nigerians should consider supporting his presidential bid ahead of the 2027 elections.
Responding to a question about his suitability for the presidency, the former Anambra State governor urged Nigerians to assess his previous record in public office alongside his current vision for the country.

He maintained that his performance and policy proposals should serve as the basis for judging his leadership credentials.
Commenting on Adeboye’s assessment of Tinubu’s efforts to combat insecurity, Obi said the respected cleric was justified in saying the President had made his best effort.
According to him, the critical issue is whether those efforts have produced the level of results Nigerians expect.
Obi argued that effective leadership should be measured by competence, capacity, compassion, commitment and character, insisting that the country’s persistent security challenges point to the need for a change in leadership.
He added that President Tinubu had done all he could and should now step aside for someone better equipped to address the nation’s challenges.

Adeboye had earlier defended Tinubu against accusations that his administration had not done enough to tackle insecurity.
Speaking at the US-Nigeria Faith Heroes Award Gala organised by the Save Nigeria Group in Washington, D.C., the cleric said it was unfair to blame the President for failing to personally fight insurgents, noting that a commander-in-chief fulfils his responsibility by directing the nation’s security agencies.
While acknowledging Tinubu’s efforts, Adeboye also expressed concern over the worsening security situation, warning that terrorism and kidnapping had spread beyond northern Nigeria into other parts of the country.
The cleric revealed that he had advised the President to issue a 90-day deadline to military commanders to significantly improve security or resign, while also urging the government to identify and prosecute those financing terrorist activities.
