The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, says the high-level Federal Government delegation currently in the United States, led by the National Security Adviser, Malam Nuhu Ribadu, is vigorously addressing misleading narratives alleging religious persecution in Nigeria.
Eko Hot Blog reports that Idris, who spoke during an interview on Channels TV’s Politics Today on Saturday, said the team is engaging US officials with “facts, data, and a clear message” that the Nigerian government is not involved in the persecution of any religious group.

He explained that the delegation has held meetings with the US Secretary of War, members of Congress, officials of the State Department, and other key stakeholders, providing evidence-based information on Nigeria’s security landscape.
This includes briefings on counterterrorism operations, inter-agency coordination, and ongoing efforts to protect all Nigerians irrespective of faith or ethnicity.
According to the Minister, the engagements are essential in correcting misconceptions recently amplified during congressional debates and advocacy campaigns.

“Our mission is simple,” he said. “We are showing our partners the full context of the security situation, the steps the government is taking, and the fact that extremists have killed both Christians and Muslims. These narratives of genocide are not only incorrect, they are dangerous.”
Idris noted that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu regards the issue with utmost seriousness and has strengthened internal security systems while deepening international partnerships to support counterterrorism and intelligence efforts.
He added that the mission underscores the government’s determination to defend Nigeria’s reputation and ensure foreign partners base their decisions on verified information rather than one-sided claims.
The Minister affirmed that Nigeria’s relationship with the United States remains strong and that more follow-up meetings are scheduled as part of a coordinated government response to misinformation circulating about Nigeria’s security realities.
He urged Nigerians to remain calm, assuring that the government will continue to combat insecurity while engaging the international community to ensure accurate representation of Nigeria on the global stage.
