Nigeria has recorded a minor decline in global travel mobility, slipping one spot to rank 90th in the latest edition of the Henley Passport Index released by global citizenship firm Henley & Partners.
Eko Hot Blog reports that according to the July 2026 report, marking the 20th anniversary of the index, the Nigerian green passport holds a visa-free score of 44 destinations out of 227 global travel locations surveyed using data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA).

The current position represents a slight drop from 89th place recorded in the April 2026 iteration, though the total number of accessible destinations remained unchanged.
Nigeria shares the 90th position globally alongside Turkmenistan and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Across the African continent, South Africa retained the lead, ranking 49th globally with visa-free access to 101 countries, followed by Botswana in 61st place with 81 destinations, Morocco in 67th with 71 destinations, and Ghana in 70th with 67 destinations.
At the top of the global standings, Singapore remains the world’s most powerful passport, offering unrestricted entry to 192 destinations.
Japan followed in second place with access to 188 destinations, while South Korea, Sweden, and the United Arab Emirates tied for third place with a score of 187. Conversely, Afghanistan sits at the bottom of the index in 104th place, with visa-free access to only 22 countries.
