The Ministry confirmed that while physical operations at the British Embassy in Tehran have been suspended, diplomatic functions and consular monitoring will continue remotely from London.
The complete withdrawal marks the final phase of a diplomatic drawdown that began earlier in the year. Britain had previously scaled down its physical presence in Tehran alongside other European nations, Australia, and New Zealand following targeted Israeli airstrikes on Iranian infrastructure.
The regional situation has grown increasingly volatile amid heightened military posture between the United States and Iranian forces.
While the FCDO declined to disclose the exact number of personnel affected by the final drawdown, the move underscores growing international concern over the safety of foreign nationals in the country.
British authorities have repeatedly warned that foreign visitors face heightened risks of arbitrary detention and politically motivated judicial action by Iranian security agencies.

Among them are British tourists Craig Foreman and his wife Lindsay, who were arrested in early 2025 during a global overland travel expedition.
The couple was subsequently sentenced to 10 years in prison on espionage charges, allegations strongly denied by both the victims and the British government.
Family representatives recently confirmed that Craig Foreman received an additional two-year prison sentence for communicating with international media outlets regarding their detention conditions.
With Western embassies shutting down physical operations in Tehran, international security analysts warn that diplomatic channels for conflict de-escalation are narrowing rapidly.
