Woman Arrested After Allegedly Pouring Boiling Water on Pregnant Co-Wife in Bauchi

The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a woman, Rabi Abubakar, for allegedly pouring boiling water on her pregnant co-wife during a domestic dispute, an attack that later claimed the life of the victim’s newborn baby.

According to the police, the incident occurred on July 17, 2026, in Daba Village, Bauchi Local Government Area, but was reported to the Dabe Police Outstation under the Soro Division on July 22.

Habib said preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly attacked her 30-year-old co-wife by pouring boiling water on her during an altercation.

The victim was rushed to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, Bauchi, where she received treatment for severe burns.

While receiving medical care, she gave birth to a baby boy on July 19. However, the newborn, who had sustained severe burn injuries, died the same day.

The police said the mother is responding to treatment and is in stable condition.

The statement added that officers visited the scene immediately after receiving the report, traced the suspect and arrested her.

According to the command, the suspect allegedly confessed to the offence during preliminary interrogation.

The case will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation and prosecution.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, condemned the incident, assuring the public that the command would ensure diligent prosecution of the case.

He also urged residents to embrace peaceful ways of resolving disputes and to report cases of domestic violence to the police for prompt intervention.
