Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Channels Media Group, Dr. John Momoh, has encouraged Nigerians living abroad to remain hopeful about the country’s future and continue supporting its growth and development.
Eko Hot Blog gathered that Momoh made the appeal on Saturday during the 9th National Diaspora Day and the 4th National Diaspora Merit Awards (NDMA) 2026 held at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Addressing participants, he urged young Nigerians to recognise their abilities and strive to achieve their full potential.
According to him, every individual possesses hidden greatness that can be unlocked with determination and hard work, adding that success should be seen as a starting point rather than the final destination.
Momoh also congratulated recipients of the 2026 National Diaspora Merit Awards and called on Nigerians, both at home and abroad, to remain confident in the country’s prospects despite existing challenges.
He described Nigeria as a nation with enormous potential, expressing optimism that its opportunities outweigh the difficulties it currently faces, particularly as its population continues to grow.
The media executive praised the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) for strengthening ties with Nigerians overseas and commended its Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, for her leadership.
He further applauded the theme of this year’s event, describing it as relevant, and noted that he would later deliver a keynote address focusing on healthcare and the contributions of Nigerians in the diaspora to improving the country’s health system.
The event began on Friday with President Bola Tinubu urging Nigerian doctors and other healthcare professionals living abroad to return home and contribute their expertise to ongoing reforms in the nation’s healthcare sector.
The 9th National Diaspora Day and 4th National Diaspora Merit Awards were held from July 24 to 25, 2026, under the theme, “Harnessing Global Diaspora Medical Expertise to Strengthen Local Health Systems for National Development.”
Organised annually by NiDCOM, the programme recognises outstanding Nigerians in the diaspora for their contributions to national development while promoting stronger collaboration between overseas professionals and key sectors of the Nigerian economy.
