Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has described traditional rulers as indispensable partners in the state’s development, saying sustainable progress can only be achieved through strong collaboration between government and community leaders.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the governor made the remark on Saturday at the grand finale of the 10th coronation anniversary of the Adeboruwa of Igbogbo Kingdom, Oba Semiudeen Kasali, held in Igbogbo, Ikorodu.

Represented by his Special Adviser on Rural Development, Nurudeen Agbaje, Sanwo-Olu praised traditional institutions for their continued role in promoting peace, preserving cultural heritage, resolving disputes and mobilising communities for development.
“The progress of Lagos depends not only on the policies of government but also on the strength of our communities and the quality of leadership at every level. Our traditional institution remains a valuable partner in promoting peace, preserving our values, resolving conflicts and mobilising our people for development,” he said.
The governor commended Oba Kasali and the people of Igbogbo Kingdom for maintaining a strong partnership with the state government and pledged continued collaboration to advance community development.
He also prayed for the monarch’s continued good health, wisdom and a peaceful, impactful reign.
As part of the anniversary celebration, a book titled The Town, the Throne and Transformation was unveiled.
Earlier, Oba Kasali donated Information and Communication Technology equipment to five secondary schools in Igbogbo/Baiyeku Local Council Development Area to improve teaching and learning.
The beneficiary schools were Community Senior Secondary School, Zumratul Islammiyah Grammar School, Oreyo Senior Grammar School, Lagos State Model College and Civil Service Senior Model College. The schools received computers, printers and Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) units.
Addressing the students, the monarch encouraged them to remain committed to their studies, describing education as the foundation for a successful future.
The event also featured a public lecture titled “Curbing the Menace of Unemployment: Causes, Effects and Solutions,” delivered by the Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Ministry of Wealth Creation and Employment, Mrs. Lolade Aina, who was represented by Mr. Demilade Shitta.
Aina urged young people to embrace entrepreneurship, innovation and skills acquisition as sustainable pathways to employment and economic growth.
A panel discussion rounded off the event, with participants highlighting the importance of innovation, collaboration and entrepreneurship in tackling unemployment and driving community development.
